Yokohama International Parade 2013
Yokohama holds an International Parade every 3rd May to celebrate its port opening. The whole parade lasts for 4-5 hours so I was only there for an hour to capture some photos.
Chinese dragon, yes international.Chinese lion, yes I'm near Chinatown, international.
Right, so that's why this is an international parade!!!
...many schools participated too!
No costume required, just wear your uniform :)
...and there were many many many bands!
... and Kirin beer...!? Love the bubbles!
Pretty girls always works...
Wait... cosplay!?
Cute young girls dressed as maids...
...and girls in guy costumes? Or are they guys? I'm confused...
Wow...I think she must be the most comfortable and relaxed performer of the entire parade.
Ok, so cosplay is also international. Noted!
+100
ReplyDeleteGosh, what's a wonderful show! Thanks for report. Now I am thinking about visiting Japan next may to watch that parade
That girl with blue hair is hillarious. Is she some kind of 有名人?
That 'chinese' dragon is not looking friendly, glad to hear that he did not harm You. Looks like he is starving, and looking for a easy game
I think that it is great mistery where they get so many people from peru.
Kray, Your reports are so interesting. Please, keep postin'
ewww ...
I think the blue hair girl is from a famous anime, but I'm not sure if she's a famous cosplayer.
DeleteThe dragon is cool XD
But the lion was hungry and tried to eat our heads XD
Thanks for your support ewww! Have a great weekend!
So yeah, in the end I am as confused as youw ere from the gender of the dudes/girls in the customs but to an even bigger extent...so many questions XD
ReplyDeleteFor starters...correct me if I am wrong but Japan refused to open their ports to traders and then came Perry and "persuaded" the japanese to lets us say...trade or die. Why celebrate such a nasty part of history?! Lol
I have the same question that you wrote in the end...how are cosplays a way of "internationalization" demostration to fit into that parade...dang it. And as a final side note, school girls don't need to wear customes, that damn uniform is a costume itself!
Oops, sorry maybe I was unclear. It is a different port opening celebration.
DeleteThe whole opening of Japanese trade was with Perry's black ship at Nagasaki, but this Yokohama port opening celebration is... just to celebrate the opening of the port in Yokohama :P
Cosplay is very hot in Asia now so I guess it represents some sort of internationalization? Ok, definitely BS. Of course, I think they are there because they are in costumes XD
I want to add... uniforms by itself are not costumes, but when they shorten the skirts, it becomes a costume XDDDD
Ah! So much clear now, thanks for the clarification now everything is either more funny than before (the cosplays) or have more sense (the festival itself)
DeleteLOL, you're welcome! XD
