One more day and it will be another new year!
2019 had not been great for me with weak health and less commissioned projects. However because of that, I had time to pick up an interest that I had for some time: Chinese metaphysics. It helped me look into the problems and questions I had these years and map out how I should move forward. Maybe when I become better, I can also help to look at my patron's charts ;)
With that, it's time to pack up all the memories and unhappiness away to embrace the new year with an open heart and mind. Thank you to all my readers for following me so far.
Happy New Year!

Comics: How Comic Artists Earn Money
A lot of strangers would ask how I earn money after I introduce myself as a comic artist. So here is how! Actually we need to have multiple streams of income as each one does not guarantee a constant revenue.

Comics: Yoga is like Life
I used to envy people who could do those difficult arm balances and inversions and tried my best to do them too. But after injuring my upper back late last year due to overwork and bad drawing posture, I’ve gradually learnt to take it easy.

So the tip for sell out books is to disappear appear, disappear appear, disappear appear throughout the convention... 🧐

Comics: Focus on what you have
I used to focus on what other people have and what I don’t have, such as money, followers and even good book sales. I felt demotivated and discouraged. I forgot to see what I already have all along, fans who have been supporting me on Patreon for many years, fans who always bought my books and bought even more to give to their friends. Once I feel grateful about what I already have, I began to feel more positive and happy. I hope my readers too, will feel the same ☀️

We don't need to give up meat completely but we certainly choose to eat less, either choosing vegetarian days or reduce overall!

Comics: Changing Times
Ugly is the new trend. Frequent updates with crude drawing is more popular than less frequent updates with good drawing and details.

Comics: Plastic Free July
I seldom draw comics with social messages these days but plastic is an issue I’ve always been concerned about. I believe the usage of plastic bottles can also be decreased by restaurants like offering the option of boiled or filtered tap water. 🥛

Yoga Comics: Engaging the Tummy
Another yoga Instagram account was sharing my old work so I suddenly gain a lot of followers. Since my health is getting better now (and my tummy size is getting bigger), I will be trying to go for more yoga classes and do more comics based on my practice again, hope you all will like it!

Comics: Before and After Going to Japan
Diagonal-crossing is also known as x-crossing. So after you have been to Shibuya crossing, all diagonal-crossings are going to be called "Shibuya-crossing" regardless of being in Japan or not.
You'll also get to train your muscles because there's a lot of stairs, not many escalators and lifts in Japan! So imagine all the luggage you have to carry up and down while transiting to airport to train stations and in-between hotels...
P.S. This is the last of the Japan series! Posting 2 comics this week to make up for the missing strips during my break last month :)

Book Launch and Signing at Kinokuniya, Takashimaya Singapore (4 May 2019)
Initially I had a presentation showing some slides about the making of the book, but because I brought a no-brand adapter to try out with my iPad, it failed to work on that day. But nevertheless since I only planned to talk for max. 10min (it cannot be too long because there's still a demo, Q&A and book signing back to back with another artist), so I already prepared another version without the slides in case the adapter didn't work. But you bet I will be bringing my thumb drive and purchasing Apple-original adapters if it is a 30min long talk session!

Comics: Away for next 2 weeks
Hi everybody, I'm going to Japan again! This time I will be visiting Akita, Aomori and Sapporo to catch the sakura cherry blossoms and squeeze with the domestic crowd during Golden Week (=_=;)
Hence there will be no new comics for the next 2 weeks. But you can catch what I'm doing on my Instagram account @evacomics ;)

Comics: Worst Case Scenario
Art materials are so expensive... and my Cintiq 24HD adapter just broke down and I'm waiting for replacement stock to arrive, which may take weeks because it's an old 2014 model.
I haven't been traveling for more than a year now and I'm finally going for my holiday to Taipei on Tuesday ! I'll be helping my friend tear down her exhibition and stay at her place while I wander around to search for new inspirations (I'm running out of good ideas to draw btw *SWEAT*). If any of you have any good ideas please let me know! Hopefully the new adapter will arrive when I return next week...

Happy New Year 2019
2017 was a busy year for me as I was selling my comic books, chasing back some payments and giving free public talks almost every month. Then came making of my 4th book in 2018 that I had high hopes for as it will be first time my book will be sold in the US and Japanese bookstores. I was stressed at finishing the book on time so I can take on other projects for income. Unfortunately, my friend who was doing my accounts billed me an exorbitant price without doing a good job and caused me much stress financially. Obviously, we are no longer friends.
So after I was done with the manuscript, I took in many projects and worked almost everyday. Everything seemed fine until my new editor came back in Sep with many changes to the book. My previous editor had ignored the rough sketches I sent in, so I thought everything was ok even though they weren’t. It became more time consuming to make changes to a finished manuscript than fixing it from the start. But there was no choice as I wanted the book to sell well so I did all the changes my new editor requested.
But after more than 3 months of constant editing and working on my commissioned work at the same time, I strained my upper back. It has affected my shoulders, arms, neck and head. I have vertigo when lying down and there is numbness in my fingers. I am undergoing traditional Chinese medicine treatment now, which may take some months, and I am cutting down on my drawing hours. My hope is that my new book which will be released in 2019 (don’t know when yet) will sell a lot so my injury is worth it. Hopefully 2019 will be a year when our hard work paid off. Happy New Year!
