Image
Went to do some sightseeing to see spring flowers for my first and last time on 15th June at Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki prefecture and Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi prefecture.

Applying for a job in Japan

Image
It's really challenging to apply for a job in Japan, especially to big corporations that only recruit once a year in big quantities and putting all candidates through written tests and countless interviews. Perhaps the reason is because companies in Japan cannot fire some one easily, so great caution must be exercised in order to get the best employees. The bad economy might also be another reason for having so many applicants applying for one job, so many elimination rounds had to be planted to narrow down the numbers. After stressing their potential employees, one can expect to stay there for life till retirement, that is unless...the company goes bankrupt... *I had witnessed someone who is not a good team player been offered many jobs, but someone who is capable and a team player were refused several times. This makes me highly doubtful whether or not filtering candidates through undifferentiated procedures result in positive aspects of the character not shown and thus hirin...

Job hunting in Japan 日本的就職活動

Image
I guess I am used to the Singaporean way of finding a job only after graduation and not get stressed out like my friends for a year, fighting for test slots and waiting for phone calls. 中文版請點(更多)→

Mt Fuji Shibazakura Festival

Image
This is called sakura soft cream replacing cloudy Mt. Fuji. I finally got to go up as I waited for weeks recovering from a bad cold, waiting for friend's schedule, gambling the weather and fighting for the bus tickets. But everything didn't work out so I eventually travelled up by myself on Monday (13th).

Sumo Opening Ceremony at Tokyo 2013

Image
My friend had a last minute extra ticket so that's how I landed up watching the Opening Day of Sumo season in Tokyo. The ticket includes entry from 8.30am to see trainees but it would be kind of boring so we arrived around 2pm to see the  Juryo Division Ring Entering Ceremony (professional sumo newbies).

Facebook is desperate to make page owners pay

Image
Facebook is now getting very desperate to make Page owners pay. First it removed the "Notifications"( the most useful feature when we check the page activity) with "Boost Post" links to suggest that we pay to get more reach. Next, it replaces the "New Likes" (where we can see who liked our page) with "Get More Likes" to make us pay for ads. Probably thats why our posts are not showing up well on News Feed and we're seeing more sponsored ads instead. This is truly worrying, will Facebook become flooded with so much ads that people begin to look for a better place? Like Google Plus? Anyway you can find me at both places now ;) https://www.facebook.com/evacomics https://plus.google.com/105397642114630854321

Museum Exhibitions in Tokyo 東京的展覽

Image
While I do appreciate Japanese queuing up, there are always too many people at the museums, especially seniors! Moreover, they have lots of time and money to rent the audio guides, so they tend to stand in front of the painting for a very very long time. Since then, I stopped going to famous artist exhibitions in Tokyo because I don't want to pay 700-1000yen to just see the heads of portraits. 中文版請點(更多)→

Snoopy Japanesque Exhibition at Ginza

Image
I am a small Snoopy fan so I became very interested in this exhibition. The exhibition showcased artwork in traditional Japanese style or craftsmanship inspired by Snoopy. They included marvellous wooden sculptures, lacquerware, kimono motif, paintings, etc. It was awesome but no pictures allowed as usual!

Yokohama International Parade 2013

Image
Yokohama holds an International Parade every 3rd May to celebrate its port opening. The whole parade lasts for 4-5 hours so I was only there for an hour to capture some photos.

Evacomics Google Page

Image
Google prompted me to link my blog and my Google Plus account a week ago so I tried it out and seemed to work nicely. However I feel uneasy linking with a personal account so I went to create a page account: https://plus.google.com/105397642114630854321/ However, unless I have 20,000 followers, I wouldn't be able to choose my own vanity url like plus.google.com/evacomics. Ok, that is tough.  Google has been working hard to improve the graphics and integrating it with other services like Youtube and Blogger to gain an edge over Facebook. However do people login to their account as frequently as Facebook? I am not sure.

My First Japanese Baseball Match Waseda VS Meiji University

Image
First time to see baseball match on Sunday after staying in Tokyo for 3 years! Our trip was accompanied by two Japanese friends who loves baseball and one is still playing actively in his own prefecture.
