Tokyo One Piece Tower

Tokyo One Piece Tower
Tokyo One Piece Tower is an indoor amusement park based on the famous manga/anime series "One Piece". It was officially opened in March 2015 with much hype, so is it worth the trip and your 3,000yen?

Tokyo One Piece Tower
The amusement park occupies 3 floors. You will be immersed into the One Piece world with large interactive panels featuring important pages from the manga, then into a large banquet room filled with the characters partying. There figures are all life-size and very well made, not some crappy rushed work.

Of course, be sure to wear something colourful... *CLOTHES COORDINATION FAILED*

You can do anything with the figures... so guys might move the hand to somewhere else...

Again, wear something colourful... oTz

Girls tend to like this spot best, hehe~

The 4th floor is more focused on games such as this sling shot game and even a horror house (not very terrifying of course). You do not have to pay anything extra to play these except for a pinball game that will devour your 500yen coin. Of course, don't expect to win any prizes unless you score full points, in which you will get a "VIP card" or something that I think is just a souvenir.

The 2 key highlights of the park are located on the 5th floor. There is a "Luffy's Endless Adventure" and "Welcome to TONGARI Mystery Tour". The first one is a walk-through with a cool mirror maze, tunnel and finally a 4D animation show. The second one is a live attraction show that you are encouraged to participate in. There is a show approximately every 2 hours but you don't have to queue there all day. You have to scan your passport at a machine near the entrance to exchange for a show ticket, then you are free to loiter around until the show time is approaching.

Costumes were well-made and the actors put a lot of effort to be in the character!

You are supposed to do something with these "stones" together with everyone to give the characters power to fight off the evil.

There were not a lot of people so we got to sit at the front most seat, which wasn't that great to take video of the whole stage. But as you can see, the show is very well choreographed with great acting, make-up, props, lighting and projected animations.

To answer some of the questions posted by my fans on Facebook and Instagram:

  • Based on the Japanese website (Q&A), this is a permanent attraction at Tokyo Tower.
  • You can spend a good 3 hours at this place, definitely worth going if you have heard of this anime. If you have never heard of it, I assume you are not into anime and manga and this will not be your cup of tea~
  • Although they tried to make it foreigner-friendly, many of the dialogues are still in Japanese but you should still be able to enjoy nevertheless.
  • It is not crowded now (at least during weekdays)
  • You can buy the tickets in advance for 3,000yen if you have a foreign passport at their website. They don't check everyone except for the person who bought the ticket so you can buy more for your Japanese friends who are coming with you.

And yes, Tokyo Tower looks pretty against the clear blue sky ;)

  2. We also like Tokyo Tower over the Tokyo Skytree! In fact, we were in Tokyo when the Skytree opened but skipped it to go to Tokyo Tower instead. That was back in 2012.

    Here's a picture I took of it: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1326222/yeoster

    1. I went to both so I could compare. I prefer the look of Tokyo Tower but if you want to see a birds eye view of the city and possibly catch Mt Fuji on a clear day, then Sky Tree is taller and better. (my 4000yen worth~)
