Mt Fuji one day tour at farm, ice cave and fifth station.

My family trip on 3rd Sep continued with a one day tour to Mt Fuji, except that it was a Japanese tour :P The tour was special because they bring people to an "experience" farm called Makai no Farm". Basically it is not the actual farm that harvests milk for the mass market, but one that was designed to allow kids and family to spend time with farm animals.

We were a bit late for the ice-cream making experience… thanks to my nephew throwing tantrums again… The rest of the Japanese (mainly women) were on time and waiting already :S

We thought we're supposed to mix ingredients but later realised that we had to put the pre-mixed ice-cream inside the bucket and then fill it with ice and salt… (did not get that part thanks to my poor Japanese listening). The salt and ice was supposed to bring temperatures down below zero for the ice-cream mixture to solidify. Sadly, because of my misunderstanding of instructions, mine remained liquid. My mum did not like the overly milky taste but my sis loved it.

The milking station opened after our ice-cream session.

Yes, she's the one to be milked by many strangers… sorry I was one of them :P

They have specific time for milking. (cute udders XD)

They said that we will have a BBQ lunch… so this was their so-called … "BBQ"… ...

Mt. Fuji Ice Cave

Mt Fuji ice cave
The next item in our itinerary was this ice cave. There was another wind cave on Mt. Fuji but we didn't go.

Once you descend, the air gets a bit chilly. I would not advise toddlers and people with bad knees to go down because of the steps...

…and because this part requires you to bend down to go through a small brief tunnel.

Me and my brother XD
Yes, even in summer when it's 30+ degrees outside, there will be some ice down there! That's why it has been used since ancient times to store ice.

Mt. Fuji 5th Station

Mt. Fuji 5th Station
Well, we could not see the summit of Mt. Fuji when we were there.

So I will show you this one that I took back in April 2003.

Under good weather with clear skies, you should be able to see the alps at the opposite. Unfortunately it was foggy when my family came.

And there were lots of souvenir shops.

That's all for my September family trip recap! I still have some blog articles to write about about my trips and experience in Japan and will update them before this year is over!
