Dormitory in Shinjuku, Tokyo

Japanese dormitory

This was what I saw when I arrive at my Shinjuku school dormitory on 1st April. It was really small at 9 sq metres, equipped with only a bed, study table, chair, side table and wardrobe/shelf. TV and fridge was passed down from seniors who had graduated.

Never mind the small space, but what I can't stand is the dirt everywhere! Unlike in U.S, the landlords here don't seem to clean or repaint the walls after the previous tenant move out. Walls generally look like this or even worse in every room...

I became really busy to buy lots and lots of cleaning products to clean up the entire room except for the bed which was brand new. The floor was really dirty and I had to wax it to make it shiny and easier to clean. I'd never ever stayed in such a dirty room before -______-

The blinds, my friends, used to be bluish green. Now it is brownish green, eeks! The rod to turn the blinds is also gone!
窗帘,oh my god...

The only consolation is the veranda outside to hang some clothes with a really crappy insect net which drops when you slide it. My view is not bad, with a withering tree (attracting some parrots, birds and crows) as well as overlooking a ceiling and a few sakura trees afar.

The rest is really crappy. I have to walk 10 14 secs to the toilet at the other end, and walk down 2 floors to access the kitchen, shower and laundry. Shared toilet is bad, as a few girls have bad toilet manners and don't clean up their sh** after their business. Shower room is newly renovated, quite nice, until I see mold appearing on the shower curtains and someone sticking her pad on the wall... eeks! Kitchen... was also clean until everyone moved in and became ridiculously wet and dirty. Laundry costs 100yen, but I wished the dryer can have a low heat setting as well.

I'm required to stay in this crappy dorm for a year due to the scholarship, so I'll try to think positively for now... ... For 28,000 yen/month it is already not bad.

Wenhan: Considered cheap cheap in Tokyo liao! It's sorta ok now but I need to get my own microwave soon and not visit the dirty kitchen downstairs that often...

    Zero:

Jes: Ya lor...that's why I never wanted to stay in dorms, save some money and move out after a year!

purutaru: YA! Especially weekends! Cos the cleaner will be off! Nobody will come wipe the dirty business!!! P.S. Cannot move la, cos the association which is giving me the scholarship, has their office just downstairs!

  13. Huitian: Ya dorms are like this. Unless your friend pays more for a dorm with studio-like rooms or rent apartment outside. However, $ will be like 2-3 times more!

    Thanks for the ganbatte! :D

    ReplyDelete
