Comics: Immigration Customs

I'm not sure why but whenever I enter or leave Malaysia, the custom is always slack at one point. The custom officer was either playing mobile game and ignoring me when I was standing in front of her to check my passport (I could totally just walk through without people stopping me), or a bunch of officers were eating snacks while baggages went through the scan (I could put Samsung Note7 inside!).

  1. I am remember going through customs when we were leaving Japan. We started to take off our belts and shoes and someone rushed to us going 'No, no! It's okay! Just walk through'... and so we walked through looking around us half expecting to be ninja-tackled at any point, because that is what would happen in the US if someone said 'no, just walk through'. They were clearly alert, the airport system kept reminding us they were on higher security than normal due to some international political summit, but it wasn't the horrible experience that ANY airport security is in the US.

    1. Hi Lissa! First welcome to my blog! US security was so strict that I had to re-adjust after I graduated from my art university in San Francisco and returned to Singapore. The most significant change was I no longer had to take off my shoes XD

    1. Haha thanks! But there are some who said it's not true, so I guess it depends on the airport and region where you travel!

For Japan is pretty much like Singapore, normal checks, not to the extreme like US where you have to take off your shoes and remove mobile phones from your bag. But I heard there's no ID check when you travel domestically and a few years ago there wasn't even a baggage check!

  3. Malaysia immigration was one of friendliest I have ever encountered. They did some small talk like asking where my country is located etc. because they were curious, not to check. In Japan they always check bags and ask many questions, like in police questioning.
