This is my first bento meal bought from the station and eaten inside the Shinkansen. To tell you the truth, the packaging was gorgeous but the taste was...so so.
Our first stop is a historical site: Mitsuke School, which is Japan's oldest wooden built school constructed in western style and completed in 1875.
The first floor includes a classroom with mannequins.
We could enter the room to have a feel of how it was like back in the old days, not bad.
They even have textbooks and black board sets to make the experience even more real.
The second floor contains exhibits of what used to be in the building. At one point in time, it became a girls' sewing high school!
Other old tools of the past.
The trip was followed by a welcome reception from the Iwata city council. We each received a small paper-weight gift as token of appreciation for visiting their city to learn more about Japanese culture, industry and history. This home-stay program had been going on for many years to promote Japan and foreign countries understanding.
My host family picked me up later and I was warmly welcomed by their dog called "Sora", meaning "sky". He's 5 years old and soooooo cute!
My "okaasan" (the mother in the household) and "oneesan" (the daughter-in-law) prepared a sumptuous meal of chirashi (vinegar rice with mixed ingredients), meatball soup, salad and fruits. It was really delicious and too much for me to finish!
