Vietnamese Food in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Wrap and Roll
62 Hai Bà Trưng, Bến Nghé, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
Doanh brought us to a restaurant called "Wrap and Roll" to taste Vietnamese food. As you can see, there is a lot of greens in Vietnamese food, which is great for guts and health! No wonder I did not fall sick when I was in Vietnam but once I come back to Singapore I caught a flu again...

They pretty much wrap everything with anything then dip into a sauce. Some rolls are distinct to certain places and you can taste them all in this restaurant.

This is called Banh Khot. At first we thought you eat it as-is, but we later found out that you have to break it apart and wrap with vegetable leaf!

This one looks like curry puff but its mainly pork inside.

This branch is like their headquarters and is popular with many tourists. It's a great place to taste authentic Vietnamese rolls~

This was recommended by a lady at the Saigon Tours office. When we reach there, we know it's one of those restaurants that "chop tourists", i.e. expensive dining.

They have live performance with traditional Vietnamese musical instruments but frankly speaking we think they were just creating noise and not synchronising their performance...

We ordered this special spice chicken. The meat was hard and the glutinous rice tasted better...

This was some kind of flower vegetable. It was quite interesting.

We were most impressed by this banana cake dessert. It doesn't look appealing but it was warm and chewy. It had different levels of taste as you chew: sweet and then sour.

The fried rice we ordered tasted MEH~ Food and drinks were overpriced and service was very slow. Even when there were little people, it took them some time to take our orders. We definitely don't recommend this place unless you are going for a date and wanted the ambience.

This restaurant doesn't appear on Google map but they are on FB. This was highly recommended by my friend who is working in HCMC now. She said that they serve pretty authentic Hoi An (another place in the middle of Vietnam) food that is hard to get in HCMC.

Their beef salad was pretty special and nice.

We love their chicken too, very different from the chicken we get in Singapore. The chicken meat in Vietnam is more chewy, less fats and tougher tendons. Maybe they are free-range chickens or what we called "kampong" chicken.

Their fried tofu was amazing too.

Although the waiters and waitresses had limited English skill, they were friendly and were prompt in their service. The food served were delicious and I will definitely return again if I come to Saigon.

Of course, who can forget the famous beef noodles or Pho? But our experience wasn't that great. While the noodles and beef tasted ok, we got conned into paying 100,000 dong per bowl instead of the usual price of 20,000 dong. We could not speak Vietnamese so we just paid up. From this lesson, we stopped visiting local restaurants that had no menu and price list.
